Street food in Hanoi is not only about beef, pork, chicken and rice noodle, but because it’s located not that far away from the ocean, it has a wide range of choices for seafood too. A long coast of 3260 kilometers running from North to South is an advantage that our beautiful country has for harvest all the precious offerings from the ocean. When we talk about seafood in Vietnam, we are talking up-scaled culinary culture, delicacy, dishes that we don’t usually have daily as local. Hanoians seafood is pricier than others, and is a bit trickier to find on the streets of the Old Quarter. And that’s why if you want to have a taste of what’s special, different from the everyday street food that 90% of what other tourists have tasted, and of course in a real Hanoian’s style, it’s best – we think – to join in Hanoi Walking Seafood Tour. Through five destinations in this walking tour, we wish to show you some of the most typical seafood dishes brought to you from the heart of Hanoi.
Duration: 3 hours
Meeting point: Your hotel/stay
Start time: 18.0
(If your accommodation further than the Old Quarter, pick up time might be earlier. For private tour, pick up time depend on your request, but recommended to be at 18:00)
Seafood is considered as the up-scaled cuisines, and you should try them at some specific spots, family restaurants, street food stands…that have years of reputation and experience in cooking those delicacies. And it’s not just about the food, between each dishes we’ll have time for sight seeing, observing the chef making our meals too!
Appetizer is fried shrimp cake in a local restaurant. Next stop will be the steamed rice pancake with dried shrimp and fish sauce for dipping sauce.
After that, you might want to get ready for the extravaganza, when we arrive to the seafood vendor, where you see all the fresh goods are presented; get yourself a small plastic chair like a local, sit back relax and we will be served with steamed crab, grilled prawn, grilled oyster with onion sauce or cockles, and lastly a dish of stir fried glass noodle. (Notice that seafood is rather seasonal so the choices might vary depends on the season and/or what the fishermen got!). Water or a glass of draught beer is included as a companion for the fine meal.
Last stop in the tour has nothing to do with seafood, because we’d love to serve you a unique treat, what would be consider in between a coffee and a dessert, the special Egg Coffee. And if you still spare yourself some room, we would go for a small portion of coconut ice cream while walking through the busy streets of Hanoi.
